  The South Point School Guwahati India Open International Rating Chess tournament was held from 25 th to 30 th December 2024 at South Point School Barsapara Guwahati. A total of ten lakhs rupees were distributed as cash prize in the tournament. Altogether 397   players which is the highest ever participants in any chess event in the entire north east India participated in this Swiss league ten rounds tournament which was recognized by the World Chess Federation, All India Chess Federation and All Assam Chess Association. The tournanent was inaugurated by making a symbolic move on the chess board by Dr S Lakshmanan,IAS, Secretary Govt of Assam, presence of Kavyashree Mahanta, IAS, Secretary Govt of Assam, Dr B Kalyan Chakravarthy, Additional Chief Secretary Govt of Assam, Krishnanjan Chanda, Principal South Point School, Jyotirmoy Purkayastha, Vice President, South Point School Management, Pulin Saha, Senior Sports correpondent among others. Abhirup saikia of Assam Chess Club put up a superlative performance and clinched the championship in the Category B of the  15th KIIT International Chess Festival 2024 which was held at KIIT University Orrisa from 2nd to 5th December 2024. Abhirup was seeded 25th in the starting rank list displayed excellent performance and scored 9.5 points out of 10 rounds and remained unbeaten in the tournament. He recieved a cash award of one lakh rupees and trophy and also increased his FIDE Rating by 147 points.  A total of 267 participated in this 10 round swiss league tournament which offered a total prize fund of fifteen lakhs in cash. IM Shahil Dey IM Mayank Chakraborty Laishram Imocha IA Biswajit Bharadwaj Rishideep Bordoloi Assam's International Master Mayank Chakraborty and Shahil Dey  has been selected to represent India in an advance level coaching camp at Singapore from 25th to 28th November 2024. Both the players along with Laishram Imocha  and Rishideep Bordoloi of Duliajan will also take part in the Singapore Open International Chess Tournament that is being held on the sidelines of the world Chess Championship from 29th November to 5th December 2024. International chess Arbiter Biswajit Bharadwaj of Assam Chess Club will also be visiting the World Chess Championship 2024 that is being held at Singapore from 25th November to 15 december 2024 in which young Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh will by fighting for the title against  defending champion Ding Liren of people's Republic of China.
